What is skin needling?

Also known as Microneedling, skin needling is a skin rejuvenation treatment. that involves using lots of small (micro) needles which puncture the skin and create micro trauma or micro channels. Causing this trauma stimulates your body to kick into its natural healing response and stimulate more collagen and elastin production. This is important as our collagen and elastin production reduces as we naturally age.

The micro-channels are equally as important as they allow for active ingredients in skincare products to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin, enhancing cell regeneration and again promoting collagen and elastin production, rather than sitting on the surface level of your skin.

Types of skin needling

Plastic Needle

This method of skin needling involves an 18-point plastic needle cartridge to give a gentle yet refreshing skin rejuvenation facial. The needle abrades the skin to create pathways for products to penetrate and rejuvenate the skin from within. This is not an invasive treatment and involves minimum downtime (1-2 hours). Clients with a range of different skin types can benefit from this treatment.

During this treatment a skin specific product will be needled into the skin – usually hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump the skin. Clients who are attending a special occasion or event in the upcoming weeks tend to enjoy this facial so that their skin is looking refreshed, glowing and youthful before they attend. Skin tone and texture are transformed, along with a reduction of any fine lines and wrinkles.

Metal Needle/Dermapen Micro Needling (please see information on our site for dermapen treatment)

The metal needle is slightly more intense and invasive than the plastic needle. The concept is still the same, that we want to create channels for product penetration, and encourage collagen and elastin production. Using a 6-point metal needle, it causes more micro trauma and pin point bleeding. This is beneficial as we can target more complex skin complaints, such as active acne, acne scarring, pigmentation, and skin ageing. For the downtime, clients can expect to experience downtime (redness) for up to 12 hours post treatment. Please see prices and more information for this treatment under Derma pen.
